The Sigma Nu Fraternity house, which had been built and previously occupied by Delta Delta Delta Fraternity, housed hundreds of fraternity and sorority women over the decades at DePauw University. The white brick facility, sometimes called "the shoebox," was replaced in 2010. Photo by Daniel M. Reck.
Before it housed the administrative offices of the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities the colonial revival style Academy House hosted the Ball State University alumni association, university relations office, and even earlier, fifteen apartments of student housing. The building was designed by architect Herbert Smenner with instructions from Frank Elliott Ball to design a facility which was distinctive but would still fit into the Muncie, Indiana, neighborhood.
