An Atlas D was the first operational version of the Atlas intercontinental ballistic missile, flown April 14, 1959. This missile is displayed at the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland, Nebraska. Atlas D missiles were also used for orbital launches. Photo by Daniel M. Reck.
