Clapper Close Up
Handbell clappers swing on a hinged axle equipped with a spring. The axle only allows the clapper to strike the casting at the best sounding spot (the strikepoint), while the spring lifts the clapper off the casting so that it can continue to vibrate. Photo by Daniel M. Reck.
